S&P Global revises Tesla debt outlook to positive

S&P Global Ratings on Wednesday revised its outlook on Tesla Inc. bonds to positive, from negative, pinning it on the Silicon Valley car maker's "recent debt reduction and stronger-than-expected cash flow." The debt ratings agency kept its rating on Tesla debt at B-, about the middle of the pack in junk bonds. "The positive outlook reflects an increased likelihood that Tesla's credit metrics will improve more than our base-case projection because of higher demand and manufacturing-related efficiencies," S&P Global said. Tesla stock added to gains after the news, and was recently trading 2% higher. The shares have lost nearly 3% this year, contrasting with gains of 23% and 18% for the S&P 500 index and the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Nio's stock sinks to snap 5-day win streak, after top finance executive resigns

Shares of Nio Inc. sank 7.7% in active morning trading Wednesday, after the Shanghai-based electric vehicle maker said its top finance person resigned, effective immediately. Trading volume swelled to 60.5 million shares, already more than the full-day average of 42.4 million shares. The stock's selloff comes after the stock soared 68% amid a five-session win streak through Tuesday, highlighted by the 36.8% run up on Tuesday after the company reported October deliveries and a collaboration with Intel Corp.'s Mobileye. On Wednesday, Nio disclosed that Vice President of Finance Dongning Wang had resigned after about four years in the role, effective Nov. 6. The company said Yu Qu, who has held "several senior management roles" since October 2016, will succeed Wang. Despite Wednesday's rally, the stock has still plunged 30.0% over the past three months, while shares of U.S. rival Tesla Inc. has soared 37.8% and the S&P 500 has gained 6.7%.

Walmart withdraws complaint against Tesla solar panels

Walmart Inc. has withdrawn its complaint against Tesla Inc. over solar panels that the retailer said were faulty, according to a Monday filing in the New York courts. The document does not specify a settlement, monetary or otherwise. Walmart filed the complaint in August, saying that a spate of rooftop fires in several of its stores were allegedly caused by Tesla solar panels. Walmart sued for breach of contract and alleged "gross negligence" on Tesla's part. Tesla bought SolarCity Corp. for $2.6 billion in 2016 and incorporated the solar and energy storage business into its own. Tesla and Walmart shares ticked higher in midday trading Tuesday, a mixed day for stocks in the wake of records for the benchmarks on Monday.
